August 24, 1980 - Phillies 7, San Francisco 1

Greg Luzinski made his return to the lineup after being on the sideline since July 5, and he made the most of it. The Bull went 1-for-3 with a home run in the fourth inning (his 16th of the season), which was the tail end of a back-to-back with Mike Schmidt, who hit his 35th of the season. That was part of a four-run outburst by the Phillies as they finally stood up to the Giants to take the last game of the series. For starter Dick Ruthven, the runs were more than enough, as he went the distance, giving up one run on seven hits to earn his 12th win of the season. Besides Schmidt and Luzinski, offensive heroes were Lonnie Smith, who went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI; Pete Rose, who went 3-for-5 with a run and 2 RBI, and Ruthven himself, who hit a triple, scored two runs and knocked in one on the game. Unfortunately, both Pittsburgh and Montreal won, so the Phils did not gain any ground on the leaders.
