Poor Randy Lerch couldn't catch a break. Lerch, dragging a 0-5 record already, had to face the man who would ultimate become the major league strikeout king and probably the most intimidating pitcher, Nolan Ryan. Lerch lasted four innings, giving up three runs - three more than the Phils would get all game off of Ryan.
