Phillies Edge Astros

Philadelphia 5, Houston 4

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Phillies broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the sixth inning on RBI singles by Larry Bowa and Manny Trillo and went on to beat the Houston Astros 5-4 for their eighth victory in 11 games.

Reliever Kevin Saucier, 2-0, was credited with the victory while Joaquin Andujar, 0-2, making his first start of the year, was the loser. Tug McGraw picked up his third save with three innings of relief.

Behind right-hander Dan Larson, recalled Friday night from their Oklahoma City farm team, the Phillies held a 2- 1 lead going into the sixth inning.

Larson had allowed only two hits but Rafael Landestoy opened the sixth with a single, stole second and took third on a groundout. Saucier then relieved Larson and Terry Puhi's sacrifice fly tied the game 2-2.

Houston had taken a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Dennis Walling’s first home run of the season. The Phillies went ahead in the third when Pete Rose drew a one-out walk and scored on Mike Schmidt’s triple. Greg Luzinski's single scored Schmidt.

The Phillies added another run in the seventh off Dave Smith when Bake McBride tripled and scored on Bob Boone's grounder. The run was the first off Houston relievers since May 5, covering 23⅓ innings.

Houston picked up two runs in the eighth against McGraw on a single by Landestoy, a double by Craig Reynolds and two infield outs.

Luzinski continued his torrid hitting with two hits in three trips. In his last five games, the left fielder is 10-for-18, including four home runs and two doubles with seven RBI.
