May 4, 1980
Pitching and defense are two hallmarks of a championship baseball team. And, on this Sunday afternoon, pitching and defense were not on the side of the Phillies as they failed to achieve the series sweep against the Dodgers. Error by Bob Boone and Luis Aguayo undermined what was a rather mediocre effort by Randy Lerch and staked the Dodgers to a 9-0 lead. The Phils actually came all the way back to tie the game in the eighth, but Dickie Noles allowed three runs in the ninth to lose the game.
