It was a long night for our Fightin' Phils, losing both ends of a double-header with the lowly Mets.  In the first game, the Phils wasted a stellar effort by Dick Ruthven, who pitched nine innings of one-run bill, and lost the game in the 11th inning when Ron Reed gave up an RBI double to former Phillie John Stearns.  In the second game the Phils scored a few more runs, but still could not keep up with the Mets.  The Phils got a decent start from Dan Larson, but the bullpen blew a 4-2 8th inning lead to lose the game in the 9th. Kevin Saucier look the loss.  The double-defeat dropped the Phils back into third place.
