Ryan leads Houston to win by blanking Philadelphia 3-0

HOUSTON (UPI) — Nolan Ryan fired a four-hitter and Rafael Landestoy, Terry Puhl and Jeff Leonard delivered RBI singles Sunday to help the Houston Astros snap a five-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Winning for just the third time in 12 games, the Astros reached starter Randy Lerch, 0-6, for one run in the first and two in the second. Those runs were enough for Ryan, who ended a personal three-game losing streak and improved his record to 2-3 with a 10-strikeout performance. Three of the Phillies' four hits were by Pete Rose.

An RBI single by Leonard, following a single by Landestoy and a sacrifice by Puhl, gave the Astros a 1-0 lead after one inning. Houston added a pair of runs in the second when Landestoy and Puhl delivered RBI singles after Luis Pujols doubled and Ryan walked.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Phillies.
