Dodgers Open a Three-Game Series Against Phils Tonight

From a Times Staff Writer

PHILADELPHIA – The Dodgers, winners of their last 10 games and suddenly within striking distance of the National League West lead, open a three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies tonight.

Philadelphia, coming off a trip to New York that has them solidly entrenched in the middle of the National League East, will start Dick Ruthven (1-2) against the Dodgers Rick Sutcliffe (0-1). Game time is 5 o clock (PDT).

One interested fan will be Fred Scioscia, father of Dodger rookie catcher Mike Scioscia. The elder Scioscia was scheduled for heart catherization here but has arranged to have it performed Thursday so that he'll be at the park for his son's hometown debut tonight
