Phils Rally To Defeat Atlanta

Phila. 10, Atlanta 5

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – The Philadelphia Phillies slammed seven doubles, including two by slump-ridden Pete Rose, as they made up a four-run first-inning deficit to beat the Atlanta Braves 10-5 Tuesday night.

The Phillies put the game away in the eighth when Mike Schmidt hit a bases-loaded triple to complete a four RBI night, and scored when the relay throw went wild for an error by second baseman Jerry Royster.

The Braves took advantage of an error by second baseman Ramon Aviles to score four unearned runs in the first, three on a bases-loaded double by Brain Asselstine, who tallied on Bruce Benedict’s single.

But Aviles and Phils starter Dick Ruthven, 2-2, survived their rocky starts. Atlanta starter Doyle Alexander, 0-2, was kayoed in a four-run third as Philadelphia rallied for its second straight triumph of the three-game series.
