Once again, Steve Carlton was masterful, holding the Astros to a single run and striking out ten as the Phils scratched just enough off Houston knuckleballer Joe Niekro to win 2-1. One Phils run came off a Niekro wild pitch on strike three to Garry Maddox. The other came on a Bob Boone grounder to short. Not exactly an offensive showcase, but it was enough to win behind the ace today.
