LOS ANGELES – Pinch-hitter Greg Gross singled home Larry Bowa with the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning to give the Philadelphia Phillies a 6-5 victory over the Dodgers. Pete Rose’s third single of the game in the top of the seventh tied him for third place with Wee Willie Keeler on the all-time singles list with 2.534.
Reliever Ron Reed (5-1) went two innings to pick up the victory and Tug McGraw pitched the final two innings for his seventh save. Bobby Castillo (1-3) came on for Dave Goltz in the seventh and got the loss.
