It was a pitchers' duel at Veterans Stadium.  Bob Walk, who had been the beneficiary of run support to overcome mediocre starts, was outstanding in his eight innings of work, giving up just one (unearned) run on four hits. Unfortunately, Expos starter Bill Gillickson was equally sharp, giving up just one run in his 7-1/3 innings.  Mike Schmidt would win the game in the 10th, singling home Greg Gross off of Montreal reliever Stan Bahnsen.
