June 9, 1980 - San Francisco 3, Phillies 1

Garry Maddox is forced on second in the fourth inning.
Garry Maddox is forced on second in the fourth inning.

For the second day in the row, the Phils' lackluster offense squandered a good pitching performance. The victim of the team's lack of support this time was ace Steve Carlton, who got a no-decision even giving up zero runs in six innings of work. The Phils actually received 9 hits and six walks, but left 14 runners on base. The Phils held a slim 1-0 lead under Carlton, but reliever Dickie Noles served a fat pitch to Jack Clark, who hit his 10th home run of the season to earn the win for the Giants, giving Noles his third loss of the season.
