N.Y. 2, Phila. 0

NEW YORK (AP) – Mark Bomback tossed a two-hitter, and Dan Norman singled home a run in the fourth inning to help the New York Mets to a 2-0 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday.

Bomback, 2-0, recorded his second successive victory over the Phillies and pitched his first major league shutout. Randy Lerch, 0-3, and Dickie Noles held the Mets to four hits.

John Stearns doubled to lead off the Mets fourth inning. After Jerry Morales grounded out, Norman lined a single to center to score Stearns from third.

The Mets scored an unearned run in the eighth. With two out, Morales reached on an error by third baseman Mike Schmidt. Morales stole second and scored on an error by shortstop Larry Bowa on Norman's grounder.

Bomback struck out two and walked six in pitching the Mets’ first complete game of the season.
