Again, the Phils failed to keep their advantage. The Pirates jumped on Dick Ruthven for five runs in five innings to beat the Phils and escape Philadelphia with their lead intact. Bob Boone doubled home two runs in the first inning, but the offense got precious little done after that, allowing Eddie Solomon to earn his second victory of the season.
