Bobby Wine - #7 - Bench Coach
Born: New York, N.Y., 9/17/1938
B-R, T-R... 6'1", 190 lbs
Bobby Wine was the quintessential good-field, no-hit shortstop for the Phillies and the Montreal Expos in the 1960s and early 1970s. He won a Gold Glove award in 1963, a feat that was repeated by the Phillies' shortstop in 1964- Ruben Amaro, who split games at short with Wine, who could only manage a .215 batting average in his Gold Glove season, and .212 in 1964. Following the 1968 season, Wine was taken in the expansion draft by the fledgling Montreal Expos, and played for them the next four season.
Upon his release from Montreal in 1972, Wine was hired as a coach for the Phillies, and would remain with the organization through 1983. He was Dallas Green's bench coach in 1980, also working with Rose, Trillo, Bowa and Schmidt on the infield defense. Since leaving the Phillies, he has coached for the Braves and Mets, briefly managed the Braves, and worked as an advance scout for Atlanta.
