He played well over his 62 games, managing 4 home runs to go along with his .314 batting average, including a game-winning RBI double in St. Louis on September 22. Moreland played sparingly during the LCS, but was the designated hitter in 3 games of the World Series.

Five-year pro... Excellent offensive player, set personal highs in doubles, homers and RBI last summer at Oklahoma City where he was the league's All-Star catcher... Led league with 21 Game-Winning RBI... Tied with teammate John Pott for most doubles in league; was second in total bases... Makes very good contact for a power hitter... Took over regular catching job for Phillies the last couple of weeks of the season after Bob Boone had his season cut short by a knee injury... Oklahoma City manager Lee Elia: "Heck of an offensive player. Best clutch hitter in the league. Came on quite a bit defensively, only his third year as a catcher."

1980 Season: His .314 average was second on the club only to Lonnie Smith (.339)... Pushed his batting average over.300 on July 27 and stayed there the rest of the season... Hit his first major league HR on 5/21 @ Vet off Tom Seaver... Belted grand slam on 6/30 @ Montreal off Bill Gullickson, one of two slams hit by the Phillies... Was Phils top righthanded pinch hitter batting .412 with 6 RBI... Had seven game-winning RBI with limited playing time behind starter Bob Boone; biggest game winner was pinch double in StL on 9/22 in 10th inning... Played two games in right field and had one assist.
1980 Post-Season: Saw limited action in the League Championship Series and batted .333 in the World Series as a DH with one RBI.
Career: Played football at the University of Texas under Darrell Royal and was an All-American third baseman at Texas (National Baseball Champions, nCAA, 1975)...
