Phillies ready to open camp

Compiled from Dispatches

The Philadelphia Phillies officially begin their 34th year of spring training at 10:30 a.m. today in Clearwater, Fla.

A couple of dozen Phillies worked out in cold weather yesterday, the last day of informal workouts.

Forty roster players and six minor league players are expected to take the field today.

Three players – Greg Gross, Lonnie Smith and Dickie Noles – called to sav they didn't know when 'they would be arriving because of a snow storm that hit the Carolinas over the weekend.

In addition, catcher Bob Boone, the National League player representative, will also miss opening day because of an executive board meeting of the Major League Baseball Players Association in Tampa.
