July 14, 1980 - Pittsburgh 13, Phillies 11
A pitching duel it was not: the Phils and Pirates scored a combined 24 runs on 36 hits. Unfortunately for the Phillies, 13 of the runs were scored by the Pirates. The Phils got to Bucs starter Rick Rhoden early, scoring four runs in the first and two more in the third. The problem is that Randy Lerch did not have it on this day, as he gave up five runs in two-plus innings of work. The game went back and forth all night, with the Phils holding 4-2 and 11-10 leads, and the Pirates at times leading 7-4, 8-7, and 10-9. With the score tied in the ninth inning, Pittsburgh rightfielder Dave Parker hit a home run against Phils reliever Ron Reed for the game winning hit. Reed would suffer his third loss of the season, while Pirates reliever Grant Jackson earned his seventh victory. The loss wasted a stellar offensive effort by Manny Trillo, who was a single short of hitting for the cycle. This game also marked the last for Phillies reliever Lerrin LaGrow. LaGrow, who had an 0-2 record with a 4.15 ERA, would never pitch again in the major leagues.
