June 26, 1980 - Montreal 1, Phillies 0

Mike Schmidt is tagged out trying to steal home.
Mike Schmidt is tagged out trying to steal home.

He had one of those seasons when nothing would go right.  Randy Lerch pitched perhaps his best game of the season: 9 innings, one run on five hits... and still lost. The Phillies never got going against Scott Sanderson, the Expos' pitcher that day. Sanderson pitched a two hitter (Pete Rose and Manny Trillo) in shutting out the Phillies. One interesting play in this game is that Mike Schmidt tried to steal home in the 7th inning, being tagged out by catcher Gary Carter.
