June 6, 1980 - Phillies 6, Chicago 5
An erratic performance by Bob Walk was supported by stellar relief pitching as the Phillies hung on to win this game, 6-5, over the Chicago Cubs. Walk had better control, not walking a single batter, but gave up 10 hits, including three doubles and a triple, over 5-2/3 innings in giving up five earned runs. The Phillies had leads of 3-0 and 6-2 before a three-run Cubs sixth inning made it close. Walk did go long enough to earn his first major league win, helped out by Tug McGraw's fourth save of the season. The Phils' attack was led by Pete Rose, whose double knocked in the game-winning run in the first inning. Manny Trillo hit a triple, and Rose, Greg Luzinski, Larry Bowa and Lonnie Smith hit doubles in the course of a game marred by two rain delays totalling over two hours.
