Ozzie Virgil - #24 - C
Born – Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, 12/7/1956
B-R, T-R… 6-1, 195
Ozzie Virgil saw his first major league action in 1980 – on the last day of the season. A September call-up, he has maybe the best seat in the house for the exciting pennant race, but didn’t see a plate appearance, a pinch-running assignment, or any time in the field until it was over. He has the second-longest (to Mark Davis) career in front of him, however, playing for the Phils through 1985 and spending time with both the Atlanta Braves and Toronto Blue Jays. He was the back-up catcher behind Bo Diaz for the 1983 NL Champion Phillies.
