The Phils' offense sputtered in this game against Reds journeyman pitcher Mike LaCoss.  Steve Carlton pitched eight innings against Cincinnati, mostly dodging seven hits and five walks, but LaCoss had a night to remember, shutting out the Phils one seven hits.  The Reds scores runs in the seventh and the eighth innings to win the gave over Lefty.
