August 6, 1980

Somedays it just does not pay to get out of bed.  Rookie Bob Walk, who had been pitching so well to build an 8-1 record going into this game, plain got shellacked in this game.  He gave up eight runs in just 2 innings of work, and four more Phillies pitchers did little to provide relief.  Of course, this game was technically over as soon as the first St. Louis run crossed the plate, and the other 13 were overkill. Yes, the pitchers (with the exception of Dickie Noles) were smacked around the park, while the Phillies could muster just three hits against Bob Sykes.  All three hits were singles, and Sykes surrendered just two walks on the night as well as the Phils never even threatened to score - only two made it as far as second base.
