June 4, 1980 - Phillies 4, Pittsburgh 3

Steve Carlton went nine to secure his 10th victory.
Steve Carlton went nine to secure his 10th victory.

Steve Carlton started roughly, giving up 3 runs in the first four innings. However, he soon settled down into true Lefty form, shutting out the Pirates the rest of the way while his Phillies teammates somehow, without the benefit of a single extra-base hit and with Schmidt and Luzinski going 0-for-8, scrouged four runs to pull the final game out against Pittsburgh. Carlton won his 10th game of the season while completing his 5th. Pete Rose, who went 2-for-4, knocked in the game-winner in the Phils' three-run fifth inning off of Pirates starter John Candelaria (2-5).
