You could call this the series that saved a season.  After leaving Pittsburgh down six games, seemingly buried for the division chase, the Phils rallied to win seven of their next eight games, including a five-game sweep of the fading New York Mets.  In today's doubleheader, the Phils offense kept up the heat on Mets pitching, winning the pair fairly easily.  In the first game, Steve Carlton struggled wita bit, giving up 10 hits but still finishing the game to win his 19th 9-4.  In the second, Randy Lerch finally broke through to win his fourth game of the season, giving up one run in his 6-2/3 innings on the hill.  Bake McBride, Garry Maddox and Lonnie Smith hit home runs in the first game, and Maddox repeated the feat in the nightcap.
