Phillies win series 3-2.
The deciding game of the National League Championship Series was, like the series itself, incredibly close and competitive. Houston had a three run lead, in the eighth inning, with Nolan Ryan pitching- and the Phillies took the lead. The Phillies had a two-run lead, in the eighth inning, with Tug McGraw pitching- and Houston tied it up again. In the end, the Phillies out-lasted the Astros and took the deciding game 8-7. Manny Trillo (3-for-5, triple, 2 RBI), Del Unser (2-for-2, 2 runs, RBI, Larry Bowa (2-for-5, run) and Bob Boone (2-for-3, run, 2 RBI) were stellar offensively. Trillo, who hit .381 for the five games, was named the MVP of the NLCS.
