October 19, 1980 - WS Game 5 - Phillies 4, Kansas City 3
Phillies lead series 3-2.
Game 5 was, obviously, a turning point in this World Series. Tied at 2-2, both teams went into the game knowing that the winner of the game was more than likely the winner of the World Series. Marty Bystom, the rookie sensation, was given the start in perhaps the most important game of the Phillies’ season. He pitched well for five innings, but tired in the 6th and gave up a pair before Ron Reed could put out the fire. The Phils, as was their modus operandi throughout the playoffs, had to come from behind, this time in the ninth inning, losing 3-2, with Royals closer Dan Quisenberry on the mound. The 4-3 win put the Phils into the driver's seat as the Series would return to the Vet for Game 6- the possible clincher for the Phillies!
