October 2, 1980
After three wins against Chicago, the Phils still found themselves in a "must-win" situation because Montreal's sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals left them still a half-game behind the Expos for the National League East lead. Rookie Bob Walk, who had often struggled in the latter part of the season, was sensational, giving up just one run in 7-1/3 innings of work and earning his 11th win of the season. He was given an assist by Mike Schmidt, who blasted his 46th homer of the season, as well as by RBI singles by Keith Moreland and Greg Gross. With the win, the Phils went into the season-ending series in Montreal deadlocked at 90-70.
