October 2, 1980 - Phillies 4, Chicago 2
This was the last home game of the regular season for the Phillies. To better their chances of playing home games in the playoffs, the Phils had to win this game against the Cubs. If they won, they went to Montreal tied with the Expos, and a best-of-three to claim the division crown. Lose, and the Phils would have to win two of three just to extend the season by one game, and win that game to advance to the playoffs. And for this most important game, Dallas Green started young Bob Walk, who had struggled in many of his recent outings. In this pressure game, however, Walk came up huge. He pitched 7-1/3 innings and gave up just one earned run in earning his eleventh win of the season. He got offense from Mike Schmidt (46th home run. 2 runs, 1 RBI), Keith Moreland (game-winning RBI in the seventh) and Greg Gross, who knocked in a run as a defensive replacement for Greg Luzinski. As stated earlier, the win pulled the Phils even with Montreal, and the two teams would go to battle in Canada with the NL East title at stake.

From "The World Champion Phillies and the Road to Victory"
When Larry Christenson's right elbow required surgery in May, the Phillies reached into their productive farm system and pulled up a tall righthander from California, Bob Walk.
All he did was win his first six decisions and eight of nine to help keep the Phillies in the race.
Tonight, the youngster faced the biggest challenge of his infant career. The Phillies HAD TO beat the Cubs for the fourth night in a row in order to go into Montreal dead even in the standings. A loss would drop the Phils one game behind with three to go, tough odds in an enemy park.
Walk yielded a run in the first on a walk, stolen base and Bill Buckner's RBI single to center. He then pitched brilliantly until lifted in the eighth.
Both Walk and Marty Bystrom have ability but maybe even more than that, they have a lot of belly.
Walk saw a Cub perched on third with one out in the second and another enemy on third with no outs in the seventh. Neither scored.
Rookie Randy Martz was super until Mike Schmidt came up in the fourth. He sent one of Martz' pitches over the center field wall. The homer, his 11th since Sept. 1, was his 46th for the year,a new Phillies season record.
Bill Caudill came on in the seventh. He gave up the second run when Keith Moreland singled home Del Unser, who had doubled.
Steve Dillard's error helped the Phillies score a pair of unearned runs in the eighth, runs which proved to be decisive.
Getting back to Walk, he got in a bit more hot water with two on and one out in the eighth. Dallas Green motioned to the bullpen with his left arm... enter Tug McGraw.
McGraw's magic worked again as he got Larry Biittner to bounce into a double play. A Schmidt error and double gave Chicago a run in the ninth but Tugger came right back with three straight outs to send the Phillies to Montreal and the end of the season.
