September 10, 1980
Sometimes fate intervenes when a team is destined to win it all, providing a proverbial knight in shining armor when the team needs it most. Marty Bystrom was that knight in 1980, arriving in 1980 and pitching lights-out the rest of the way. He got his first start against the New York Mets and shut them out, giving up just five hits in a complete game. Garry Maddox drove in two runs on three hits, and Bake McBride went 4-for-5, scoring one and driving in another.
