September 21, 1980

Dick Ruthven fought wildness in his start against the Cubs, but persevered enough to gain the victory.  Ruthven walked five Chicago batters in 5-2/3 innigs to go along with six Cubs hits, but managed to escape giving up only three runs.  Ruthven was assisted by perfect relief by Ron Reed and by a resurgent Phils offense, who scored seven on Chicago pitching for the second consecutive game.  The Phils received home runs from both Mike Schmidt (41st) and Greg Luzinski (18th) and five doubles among their 15 total hits, and their seven runs were knocked in by seven different players.
