September 19, 1980

Even the Comeback Kids let one slip now and again.  The Phils held a 3-2 lead in the ninth inning against the lowly Chicago Cubs, with Warren Brusstar on the mound.  Unfortunately, Brusstar was not up to the task, and gave up the lead before giving way to Tug McGraw, who only managed to face one batter, former Phil Jerry Martin, who singled home  Cliff Johnson to give the Cubs the win.  The shoddy relief work in the end cost Bob Walk, who pitched into the seventh, the win.  It also spoiled Ramon Aviles' second (and last) career homer.  Mike Schmidt knocked in the first Phillies run when he sent Bake McBride home on his eighth triple of the season with one out, but was stranded there when Manny Trillo struck out and Garry Maddox flied to left.
