L.A. keeps Phils from gaining 1st

 

LOS ANGELES ( AP) - Bobby Castillo said he was "just kicking back, relaxing out in the bullpen" when he got the call to replace injured Dave Goltz in the fourth inning yesterday. 

 

"I really was surprised to come into the game." the Los Angeles reliever said after working six innings in the Dodgers" three-hit. 6-0 shutout over Philadelphia. "My longest? I don't know, but it was certainly my best." 

 

The victory was Los Angeles' 17th in its last 20 games, as the Dodgers completed a 10-1 homestand against Montreal. New York and Philadelphia, their best since winning 11 games in 1966. The loss was the Phillies' third straight to the Dodgers and kept them in second place in the East – one game behind Montreal.

 

"We had a tremendous homestand and a tremendous trip before that." said Los Angeles Manager Tom Lasorda. 

 

Dave Lopes drove in two runs as the Dodgers collected 10 hits off five Philadelphia pitchers. Starter Dick Ruthven, 14-9, took the loss, his 12th in 14 decisions against Los Angeles. 

 

Goltz started for the Dodgers but left in the fourth, after yielding only one hit. with a sprained ankle received while covering first base. Castillo, 6-6, took over and allowed only two hits the rest of the way. 

 

The Dodgers scored twice in the first after two were out. Dusty Baker singled, Steve Garvey doubled, Baker scored on a balk by Ruthven and Ron Cey then singled home Garvey. Garvey's single in the third plated Baker with his 95th RBI. 

 

Los Angeles added three more in the fourth on four singles, including a two-run rally-capper by Lopes.

Named poster child

 

James H. Fahr III, a son of Mrs. Doris Fahr of Bethlehem, has been named Lehigh County poster child for the 1980 Breath of Life Campaign to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. 

 

The tendency toward frequent colds and a failure to gain weight as an infant led Jimmy 's mother to take him to St. Christopher's Hospital, Philadelphia, where his condition was diagnosed.. While there is as yet no cure for cystic fibrosis, continuous care and checkups allow Jimmy to lead an almost normal life. 

 

This summer he was named "Most Valuable Player" for his championship Little League team. 

 

Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. The foundation has more than 120 research, care and training centers throughout the country. They offer their facilities not only to cystic fibrosis victims but also treat children suffering from other lung-damaging diseases. 

 

The chairman for the national 1980 Breath of Life campaign is Bob Boone of the Philadelphia Phillies.
