September 19, 1980 - Chicago 4, Phillies 3
If the win against Pittsburgh may have saved the season, if the Phils had lost, this game against Chicago would have been seen as perhaps the backbreaker for the 1980 season. The Phils held a 3-2 lead, helped greatly by Ramon Aviles' second homer of the season, going into the bottom of the ninth inning. Relievers Warren Brusstar and Tug McGraw failed to hold the lead, and Chicago scored two runs to steal the victory away from the Phillies. Brusstar, who was responsible for the runners that scored, was charged with his first loss of the season when former Phil Jerry Martin singled off McGraw to drive home Cliff Johnson. The loss wasted a good effort by Bob Walk, who gave up two runs in 6-1/3 innings.
